Method of characteristics is applied to study of shockwave propagation in ground; soil behavior is characterized by 1-dimensional pressure-deformation relation which is expressed analytically by using small number of parameters representing basic soil properties; completely automatic computer program has been developed that allows pressure, displacements, and particle velocities to be determined as functions of time and position; results of series of numerical computation are presented that show influence of basic soil properties.
