Fatigue limit and discontinuity in S/N fatigue curves of steels
Studies of 18/8 titanium stabilized stainless steel and cold drawn mild steel were undertaken to assess effect of case hardening treatments on fatigue limit of materials; tests showed that it is possible to raise fatigue limit up to level of discontinuity (i.e., approximately 10 tons/sq in.) in both materials, by strengthening weakly supported grains in carbo-nitriding treatment at 900 C.
