Behaviour of saturated clays during sampling and testing
Despite nonelastic behavior of saturated normally consolidated clay and very considerable changes in stress which necessarily take place even during perfect sampling undrained shear strength of sample obtained without mechanical disturbance is virtually same as corresponding strength of clay in ground; very probably if stress changes during sampling produced no strain, and consequently no alteration in microstructure of clay, strengths would be exactly equal.
