Cohesional and frictional variables in rammed sand mixtures
Arguments are presented and supported by literature data that commonly accepted tensile tests on rammed sand specimens evaluate property called shear rupture, and commonly performed shear test in reality evaluates tensile properties of sand mixtures; 2 variables determining mechanical properties of sand mixtures were found to be frictional and cohesive and, of these, quality of cohesive gel bond is major one; systematic study of this gel bond is recommended.
