New concepts in blistering of asphalt shingles
Attention is concentrated on upper layer of stabilized asphalt coating; correlation is shown between intensity of observable shingle blistering after prolonged test deck exposure and relative diameters of air pockets or voids in this coating; production of large voids of diameters in excess of 220 μ and percentage of these voids to total number of voids are critical factors in determining intensity of blistering; methods of reducing number of large voids formed in asphalt coating during manufacture of shingles are discussed.
