Fresh and salty ground water in Long Island, N.Y.
Distribution and movement of fresh and salty groundwater in sand, silt, and clay deposits beneath barrier beaches of southwestern Long Island; techniques for study of salt water intrusion were developed during investigation; multiple observation wells were constructed for monitoring intrusion; lower part of deep salty water body has nearly penetrated entire thickness of clay deposits between Rockaway Park and Lido Beach; it is moving, though very slowly, toward underlying fresh-water aquifer tapped by public supply wells.
