Studies of severe rainstorms in Illinois
Data from concentrated rain-gage networks were used to investigate area-depth relationships for basins with areas ranging from 5 sq mi to 500 sq mi; empirical mathematical formulas were developed to define storm duration; field surveys were conducted after major flood producing storms and these data were used in conjunction with radar observations and synoptic weather data to make detailed studies of widespread, severe storms.
