Wave force coefficients for offshore pipelines
Drag and lift force co efficients due to wave action on pipe lines with circular and trapezoidal cross sections are evaluated for case in which they are in contact with smooth, hard surfaced ocean floor; special consideration given to phenomenon of oscillatory motion characteristic of wave action; combined lift and drag force coefficient is approximately same for circular or trapezoidal cross section; lift forces can be greatly reduced if pipe contours with sharp corners and straight walls are utilized.
