Multi-storey construction in concrete
Development in use of precast concrete in building frames, wall panels, and mullions; use of prestressed concrete and of flat slab concrete frames, and also increasing use of cranes; in England concrete framed structures up to 17 stories were built, but taller buildings have steel frames; in Continental practice concrete frames are competitive up to height of 407 ft; weight reduction by hollow clay blocks, ribbed floors, and lightweight aggregates. (see also Surveyor v 117 n 3448 May 24 1958 p 532-4)
