Colored terra sigillata coatings for building materials
Coatings such as were used as very thin finish for early Greek and Roman pottery were prepared from three groups of clays; they could be applied by dipping or spraying, and were tried on pieces comparable to structural clay products; fired coatings were impervious to moisture and withstood autoclave tests; various colors were obtained by additions of color oxides and body stains.
