Bridge Span seats with ebbing tide
426-ton lift span for Columbia River bridge between Portland and Vancouver is erected on temporary truss mounted on barges, towed to site, positioned and lowered by ebb tide; large section of span was assembled on barges, thus tying barges together as unit; four legs served as pedestals atop falsework structure to give level footing for lift span across curved top of temporary span.
