Segmental construction for aircraft hangar
Hangar 282 ft long, 112 ft wide, erected for Transair, Ltd, at Gatwick has roof structure of precast prestressed concrete; triangulated space frames of secondary beams, which span 105 ft, were assembled at ground level and hoisted into position; it is claimed that cost of building is about half that of similar maintenance bases due to economies in overall planning.
