Cylinder pile retaining wall
Conditions encountered during construction of Seattle Freeway, I-5 through Seattle, Wash, necessitating change in design of retaining walls, from conventional reinforced concrete cantilever or counterfort wall to cast-in-place concrete cylinders with welded steel beam reinforcement are discussed; observations made for 1 yr period on cylinder wall are given, together with discussion of ability of cylinder to function as retaining wall under working loads.
