Crack control in concrete masonry unit construction
Objective of study was to review available information and experience data concerning location and construction of crack-control joints in buildings constructed of concrete masonry units and to determine why, when, and where such joints are needed, and establish criteria for their location; attention was given to various conditions, other than intended live and dead loads, thought to be common causes of stress accumulation within concrete masonry walls and partitions, and factors affecting wall extensibility and capacity to withstand stress; recommendations are given for crack-control plan and criteria are offered as guide to provision of crack-control measures.
