New hardfacing process tested
Abrasion test of new hardfacing process developed by Texas Alloy Products Co in Houston, Tex, was run on section of suction pipe on 24-in. hydraulic cutterhead dredge Mobile; total of 313 lb of hardfacing was applied giving piece of weight of 2181 lb; hardfacing was applied automatically in series of longitudinal passes which deposited hardface in overlapping strips 1 3/4 in. wide and 1/8 in. deep on interior wall of pipe.
