World's largest -- "Prins der Nederlanden" put into service
Trailing suction hopper dredge built in Netherlands has overall length of 469 ft, width of 72 ft and depth of 39 ft; using 48 in. diam twin suction tubes, new dredge has dredging depth of 115 ft; 20-ton electric crane mounted on main deck serves for hoisting aboard spare parts and stores, and for carrying out repairs to suction tubes or pumps; it is reported that vessel can pick up her 18,000-ton payload of spoil in 1 hr and discharge it in 5 min.
