Construction of earth dam on Columbia River in BC; 120-ton Canadian-built bottom dump trailers are used to haul fill for 790-ft high embankment; flexibility of truck-loader combination favored it over materials handling by railroad or conveyor; loader is 15 cu yd unit; tractors are 700 hp with 8 1/2 ft diam wheels and 14-ft ladder for cab access; weak micaceous rock at dam prompted use of off-site material to build 42.2 million cu yd embankment of dam; corrugated pipe culverts, 36×24 ft, carry combined flows of rivers for haul road.
