Matahina Dam, on Rangitaiki River, was scheduled to be filled at end of 1966; because dam is built on rather unusual foundations, larger than usual number of instruments has been installed to monitor performance; brief description of instruments is given and their distribution within dam and its foundations is discussed; geology of site is briefly described.
