Annealing of hard-faced cutting tools; tools were packed in steel boxes with cast iron shavings and heated to 500 C and soaked 3 hr, heated to 860 to 880 C at rate of 30 C/hr and soaked 5 hr, cooled to 740 to 760 C at rate of 10 C/hr and soaked 5 hr, cooled to 500 C at rate of 10 C/hr, and then cooled in air; this treatment produced hardness of HRC 26 to 29 and stable microstructure; microstructure consists of sorbitic pearlite with thin network of carbide eutectic and small number of fine individual carbides. (see also English translation in Metal Science and Heat Treatment n 1-2 Jan-Feb 1968 p 141-2) (46939)
