Rebuilt wolf creek culvert behavior
Failure of 18.5-ft diam structural-plate culvert under 83 ft of cover led to its reconstruction using imperfect trench type of construction and other changes; culvert was instrumented with electrical resistance strain gages placed on culvert walls at approximately mid-height; Carlson soil stress meters placed on outside walls of culvert and in fill; rubber pressure cells adapted from commercial hot water bottles placed in fill; and settlement cells, which were placed in fill on each side of culvert.
