Correlation of hardened concrete test methods and results
Laboratory investigation was conducted to determine compressive, tensile, and shear strength parameters of several concrete mixtures, to evaluate test methods utilized, and to correlate results obtained; shear strength determined by Mohr envelope of failure for triaxial tests most closely approximates pure shear strength of concrete; direct shear tests have inherent discrepancies in methods and equipment that cast doubts on results obtained through their use; beneficial effects of angular aggregate as compared to rounded aggregate balance detrimental effect of higher water-cement ratios required for equal consistency.
