Failure criteria for concrete in compression
Failure surface in three-dimensional stress space of concrete subjected to multiaxial compression with maximum stresses up to eight times uniaxial compressive strength is described; it is shown that, if experimental results presented by several authors are correct, failure surface for concrete cannot be rotationally axi-symmetric; suggested shape of failure envelope is approximated to form which can be represented by simple equations, and safety factor is defined which enables design equations to be presented.
