High strength bolt shear connectors -- Pushout tests
Static pushout tests of concrete-steel specimens using high strength bolts as shear connectors; object of testing program was to investigate behavior of "rigid" connector embedded in normal-weight concrete when subjected to static shear force; results were compared with those of flexible connectors to determine feasibility of using rigid connectors in composite construction; bolts were embedded in normal weight concrete and pretensioned by turn-of-nut method after concrete had aged 28 days; length of bolt embedded was 4 in. within 6 in. slab; bolts exhibited greater useful capacity and ultimate strength than comparable studs.
