Microcracking of plain concrete under uniaxial compressive loading
Failure of concrete under uniaxial compressive loading was studied with reference to development of internal cracking and progressive formation of microcracks; concrete cubes were loaded by axial compression to various percentages of their ultimate strength; thin slices were taken from strained specimens, and maximum width of bond, mortar and aggregate cracks were measured at various strains, and results are discussed.
