Use of spectrophotometry in study of dyed and undyed textiles; on cellulose treated with generally applied textile dyes, displacement of absorption maxima in direction of longer wave-lengths takes place; investigations of ultra-violet absorption of skin revealed that scattering plays important part and renders absorption determinations difficult; considerations set forth represent attempt to evade difficulties.
