Research on soil and waste pipe systems; method of single-stack drainage, developed at Building Research Station in Great Britain, is outlined; cost of this type of system is said to be about half that of conventional installations; factors that determine performance of drainage piping above ground are discussed; satisfactory results were obtained in apartment buildings with 4 in. stacks used up to 10 stories, 5 in. up to 15 stories and 6 in. up to 25 stories, without individual trap venting; example of hydraulic conditions in 4 in. stack and drain.
