Contribution to calculation of buried ring-reinforced pipes
Theory is developed for determining stresses and displacement in thin-walled ring-stiffened pipe subjected to earth pressure; pipe shell and rings are considered separately, and continuity is re-established by transition conditions; pipe is treated according to linear bending theory for isotropic cylindrical shell, using Fluegge differential equations; ring is considered as closed circular beam loaded in its plane with shell boundary forces; on basis of exact theory, simplified approximate procedure is developed, applicable to most steel pipe lines.
