Notes on laying of 9.7 mi of 20 in. line from Burnham, Ill, to Gary, Ind; job included crossing 97 railway tracks, 46 paved city streets and Indiana Harbor Ship Canal; at one point, 32-in. casing was jacked 330 ft by pushing it through ground to pass 5 tracks without tunneling; other special construction problems are described.
