To prevent arching of top-poured concrete in 90 ft and longer steel shell piling Slattery Contracting Corp of New York City developed pile filler for Gowanus Expressway viaduct; unit was fabricated from 24 ft length of pipe of 1/2-in. steel; at bottom end was 4-in.-thick show plate; lower 4 1/2 ft of unit was fitted with open side ports for quick outflow of concrete.
