Sea-motion forces of nonbreaking waves on vertical piles
Theories of water waves (single-wave theory, Stokes-Struik theory, Airy theory) are reviewed, and corresponding equations for surface profile, velocity and acceleration of water particles, and wave propagation velocity are assembled in table form; method for calculation of forces acting on piles of artificial offshore island is presented; factors determining altitude of island's platform above sea level are discussed; application of theory is explained in numerical example.
