Story of fire; attempts to seal fire area were unsuccessful; attempt to flood fire area with water, discontinued because dams were not strong enough; carbon dioxide gas introduced into fire area to dilute mine fire gases, extinguished fire; use of carbon dioxide gas can prevent explosion during sealing of mine fire.
