Main lock on chain of Rocks Locks No. 27 above St Louis is 1200 ft long and 110 ft wide; its east wall is 92 ft high and 45 ft wide, gates are of welded construction; dredging 2,500,000 cu yd of excavation was performed by floated cutterhead dredge; lock contains 40,000 cu yd concrete, 2,940,000 lb reinforcing steel and 3,040,000 lb structural steel; work stages illustrated.
