Increasing clearance of overbridge
14 of 19 road overbridges on Nuremberg-Regensburg section of German Railways, too low for electrified line, had to be lifted; in short line possessions, bridge superstructures were lifted and placed on broad flanged I-beams inserted between girders and built up ends of abutments; with arched overbridges, required clearance was not available at haunches of arch; required headroom gained by replacing central part of arch by rigid horizontal frame of reinforced concrete, absorbing lateral thrust of arch.
