A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
In June 1943 earthflow involving more than one million cu yd of varved clay occurred at Beattie Mine; subsequent remedial measures resulted in further large landslides; this paper describes soil conditions, sequence of events, and attempts to assess stability of clay slopes; it was found that undrained analysis led to unsafe assessment but that Terzaghi's rule for critical heights of slope gave better indication of stability.
