180 mi stretch of coastal area, about 2 mi wide, between Olifants River mouth and Port Nolloth, is being explored for diamonds by using giant auger that penetrates sands and gravels to depth of 120 ft by trenching machines which follow heavy earthmoving equipment in operational sequence and by sinking 10 ft by 6 ft shafts.
