Phenomenon of undulating jump in 2 conditions is studied by applying second-order approximation of 2-dimensional steady-flow equations for irrotational motion; first condition is characterized by rapid uniform flow before jump, and second by tranquil uniform flow after jump; criterium to localize jump in both cases after having carried equations of first wave height is indicated; interpretation of beginning of breaking is given, and limits are determined and expressed in terms of bottom slope.
