Long thermopile is self-refrigerating foundation support or anchor with high conductivity of heat out of ground and high resistance to heat flow into ground; when properly used, long thermopile will keep soil permanently frozen in its vicinity; propane gas is released slowly to cool metal pipe and keep area around it frozen year round; there is gain of 2-7 tons/sq ft in bearing capacity for each degree F of reduction in soil temperature below freezing; pile has been successfully used for U S Army Corps of Engineers structures in Alaska.
