As result of carrying out several series of laboratory-scale heats of refined medium carbon ferromanganese with varying relative quantities of silicon and calcium oxide in charge, optimum production conditions were established (ratio of manganese in ore to silicon is silicocalcium = 3.0-3.15 and to calcium oxide in lime = 0. 85-0.96, slag basicity 1.20-1.35, slag bulk 1.15-1.40); if these conditions are observed recovery of manganese from charge should increase from 60% to 75-83%.
