Streamlined 230-Kv transmission passes overhead in city's streets
Use of tapered steel poles and inconspicuous gray insulators in residential area of Phoenix, by Arizona Public Service Co is discussed, along with problems faced in erecting towers in normally dry bed of Salt River; 200-1b combination hold-down weight and corona shield was hung at end of each suspension string to suppress conductor swing-over corona and RIV; reduced disturbance in area during construction, closer tolerances with regard to anchorbolt dimensions and concrete quality, and lower cost were achieved by using precast reinforced concrete foundation.
