Effect of heat on static withdrawal resistance of plain shank nails in some Australian timbers
Heat energy was conducted along embedded shank and dissipated into surrounding timber fibers; three Australian timbers were used in study which included examination of density, moisture content and levels of thermal induction; statistical study was undertaken to determine relationship between nail diameter, penetration and maximum withdrawal resistance; equations derived relate diameter and penetration of plain shank nail with its withdrawal resistance value for varying thermal levels, timber densities and moisture conditions.
