Ultimate load tests on braced multi-story frames
Four tests were conducted on three-story, two-bay fully welded frames, fabricated from ASTM A36 steel; full size frames were proportioned by plastic design methods and braced against sidesway by diagonal bracing; gravity, "checker-board"and lateral loads were applied up to failure to study behavior and strength and to evaluate plastic design methods for predicting frame behavior at maximum load; experimental ultimate load reached or exceeded maximum load predicted by plastic theory with average discrepancy of 4%.
