Design and construction of dual recharge system at Minot, north Dakota
In 1965, groundwater recharge facility was constructed and placed in operation to forestall impending water shortage at Minot, ND; facility is unique in that rate of recharge to buried sand and gravel aquifer is augmented by perforating overlaying bed of clay using hydraulic connectors (gravel-filled bored holes) in conjunction with open-pit excavation; recharge technique made it possible to add about 4 1/2 mgd of water to underground storage with total capital investment of about 200,000 dollars.
