Stresses and displacements induced in rock by tunnel boring machine props
Bureau of Mines presents theoretical solution for stresses and displacements in infinite elastic plate containing circular hole whose boundary is subjected to applied shear loads over four separated arcs; analysis of various solutions shows that tangential tensile stresses induced on boundary of circular tunnel by applied radial loads can be minimized in roof and floor of tunnel by application of appropriate shear loads to each of four props.
