Vollmechanische Tunnelvortriebsmaschinen im Fels
Fully mechanized tunneling machines for work in rock; since 1965 first experimental machines, and, subsequently, machines of one model series have been driving galleries and tunnels with total length of 5000 m (30,000 m in near future); machines equipped with roller bits have proved capable of working both in hard rock of up to 3500 kpond/sq cm and in rock of 300 kpond/sq cm provided rock is strong enough for setting up timbering; advantages afforded by these machines include -- low diameter tolerance, and low tool consumption; brief description is also given of "Unicorn" shield heading machine for soft rock. (11961)
