Direct method for determining critical loading pattern of rigidly jointed truss as whole is presented; method was applied on two-panel, three-panel and four-panel equilateral triangulated trusses, and curves giving buckling loads as well as buckling lengths are presented for different stiffnesses of lower chord and web members in each case; analysis was extended to include effect of rigid gusset plates; empirical formula giving effective length was suggested for use in design rules and working formula; review of previous methods of analysis and approximations used is included.
