Construction of new subway in Hamburg -- scheduling and operation; two sections of 16.8 km and 7.8 km in length respectively are under construction; shield-tunneling is required over total run of 4800 m; single-form tunneling using cast-iron tubing is standard; two-form reinforced concrete tubing has to be employed over section 275 m in length; traffic tunnels within town area will be in form of open, retained excavations; most of tunnel structures will be made of cast-in-place concrete; precast reinforced concrete units will also be employed for various elements and cross-section of complete tunnel stretches.
