New rectangular finite element for shear wall analysis
Difficulty of connecting plane stress finite elements with line elements in bending is overcome by devising new element which has rotational degrees of freedom at node points; application to analysis of simple shear wall problems with single row of openings illustrates method and comparison of results with other solutions demonstrates its validity; study of behavior of new element in comparison with results for more conventional element shows that for same number of elements, accuracy of estimation of deflection is increased, and ratio of length to breadth of elements has less significant effect on results.
