Construction over shallow mines -- Two case histories
Two different support schemes employed for two dissimilar structures constructed over shallow mines are described; first is two-story garden apartment building over 12-ft void whose construction was initiated without benefit of foundation investigation; second is 160-ft self-supporting tower which required high bearing capacity, and uplift resistance due to wind loads.
