Roadway surface classification
Reflectance properties of surface should be considered in lighting system design, since they affect level and uniformity of luminance; approach to classifying roadway surfaces according to their directional reflectance properties is attempted; reflectometer, developed for measuring directional reflectance factors for pavement samples, was used to record reflectance characteristics of several asphaltic concrete samples; portion of data for two samples are presented; three procedures for fitting polynomial equations to data are described one of which has been successfully used to fit data with polynomials of ninth order; directional reflectance properties of traffic-worn surface and new surface are described and compared graphically and mathematically.
