Use of oxygen for injecting bath of 900-ton open hearth furnace
On basis of instantaneous oxygen balance, formula is presented for oxygen efficiency factor K; quantity of slag in furnace used in formula for trial heats was determined by radioisotope method; value K at beginning of melting period is low and it is recommended at this point to inject at low rate (3000 cu m/hr) and oxygen saved will be used later to increase rate up to 5000 cu m/hr without increasing total oxygen consumption.
